About MyMathTest  [TOP]
MyMathTest was created to help you test your skills in pre-algebra and introductory
algebra, and learn your strengths and weaknesses. You can use MyMathTest to
see how well prepared you are for college level mathematics and college placement
tests.
On this Web site you can take a test covering topics in basic mathematics and
introductory algebra, and receive a Study Plan based on your test results. The
Study Plan will tell you what topics you need to study in order to be more successful
on the test.
The site also contains suggestions for additional learning resources and materials.
System Requirements  [TOP]
To run this site you need the following:
  • A PC (not a Mac) running Windows 95, NT, 98, 2000, or XP
  • Minimum monitor resolution of 800 x 600
  • Netscape 4.7, or Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher. Internet Explorer is recommended for easier installation of the TestGen plug-in.
  • The current version of the TestGen plug-in.
Installing the TestGen Plug-in  [TOP]
You will need to install the TestGen plug-in before you can take your test. After you enter the site to take a test, you will be asked if you wish to install the TestGen plug-in. If you answer "Yes," and you are using Internet Explorer, the plug-in will automatically be downloaded and installed for the latest version of Internet Explorer and Netscape on your machine. If you are using Netscape, you will be given instructions on how to download and install the plug-ins manually.
Downloading the plug-in may take as long as 5 minutes if you have a dial-up connection. Be patient! You will receive a prompt when the plug-in is ready for installation, and a confirmation message when installation is complete.
Choosing Your Test  [TOP]
After you have installed the TestGen plug-in, you will be asked which test you wish to take. Review the topics listed for each test carefully, and decide which to take based on which test you think you will have the least success.
Taking Your Test  [TOP]
After you have selected your test, you will see a WARNING screen. This will tell you that you may not leave the test and return to it until you have completed the test and submitted your results. Do not use the browser "BACK" button while taking the test, unless you wish to leave it entirely!
The test will give you a series of multiple choice questions. To answer a question, click on the letter next to the answer you wish to select.
Click on the Next and Previous buttons to move through the test. You can change your answer, or leave it blank and return to it later. If you click on the Summary button, you will see a list of all the questions on the test. You can navigate from one question to another by clicking on the question numbers that appear on the Summary screen.
If you have any questions about how to take the test, click on the Help button to view TestGen help.
Scoring and Reviewing Your Test  [TOP]
When you have completed the test, click on Score.
You will see a summary of your test results. You may review your test and answers by clicking on the Review button.
Viewing Your Study Plan  [TOP]
After you complete your test and review your results, you need to go to your Study Plan. You can do this by clicking on the Study Plan button.
The Study Plan will provide you with a list of sections that you need to review. The section numbers will reference sections in Lial/Salzman/Hestwood, Basic Mathematics, 6th edition, and Lial/Hornsby/McGinnis Introductory Algebra, 7th edition.
Be sure to print the Study Plan before you leave this page! If you don’t, your Study Plan will be lost.
After you receive your Study Plan, you may want to visit "The Math Store," or one of the MyMathTest Resources sites. You can also retake your test, or take a test that you have not taken.
